My name is Ryan Coker.

I am a graphic designer, originally from Orlando, Florida. In late 2007 I moved to Richmond, Virginia where I work remotely for an Orlando based company.

In late 2009 early 2010 I started living a more healthy life by exercising and counting calories. I lost over 100 pounds. You can read about that here.

My Fitness Update.

I have been trying hard not to turn this into a fitblr but it has been a little while since I have done an update. There have been some changes since I wrote my end of year recap back in January.

Since writing that update I have lost another 30lbs. Thinking about this now makes me really happy since my rate of weight loss has dropped dramatically since the end of last year. Obviously, when one is over 350lbs, the pounds come off a lot faster than they do the closer and closer one gets to their goal weight. I started out with the goal to lose 2lbs a week, but sometimes would end up losing anywhere from 2-5lbs a week. Recently, I am down to 1lb a week sometimes less which can at times be discouraging when I am used to the former. Regardless, I am very happy with the 30lbs.

So what have I been up to?

Well, I finished round 1 of P90X but didn’t get enough so I came back for seconds. I will say that jumping into a second round of P90X with only a 2 week break in between might not have been the smartest move. About—let’s say—the second day into round 2, I was already cursing like a sailor in my head at the screen. One can only take so many standard push ups, military push ups, decline push ups, wide front pull ups, reverse grip pull ups, corn-cob pull ups, really bad jokes, etc…

In the end, it worked out for the best. I am starting to feel muscles I never knew I had and I am seeing more and more definition. My running joke is that I am completely ripped underneath the remaining fat. Now, if I can get rid of my remaining fat I’ll be golden.

So, whats next?

Right now, I am taking a full month off before starting round 3 of P90X. In this time I will be pushing cardio like I never have before. I will still do weight lifting 2 out of my 6 workout days. Then push up and pull ups with light cardio one of the other days, and then high intensity cardio for the other 3 days.

In the long term. I want to take on Insanity. I don’t think I am physically ready to take that on just yet since I still have a hard time keeping up with P90X’s jump training workout.

Still, I am very excited with my results so far. Recently I went to the store to buy a new T-shirt and ended up buying a Large. For most people this doesn’t seem like a big deal. However, keeping in mind that a year and a half a go, I wore a lot of 3XL, this is a BIG deal. Not to mention the fact that I started wearing XL shirts in late elementary school / early middle school. Buying clothes wherever I want is something new to me.

When I started this, my thinking was that I can die at any minute, but if I do, I am not going to let it be because I was careless with the only body I was given. This is still my overall motivation that keeps me moving forward, but one thing has changed. I have fallen in love with health and fitness. It has become a passion of mine.

I have been shy about posting numbers for everyone to see. However, noting how far I have come in the last year and a half, I think it only fair that my family and friends, who have helped me along the way, know to a fuller extent what their dedication has helped me accomplish. Keep in mind that I don’t post any of this out of pride or with any amount of a “look at me! look at me!” type attitude. Along the way I have read lots of similar stories that have only pushed me forward harder than before. I have a long way to go, but I am headed in the right direction.
